EL CAJON - At a news conference today, CHP officials confirmed the identities of the 4 people killed in friday night’s fiery crash off the 125 and Mission Gorge Road.

45-Year-Old CHP Officer Mark Saylor, his wife 45-year-old Cleofe Saylor, 13-year-old daughter Mahala Saylor and 38-year-old brother-in-law Chris Lastrella were all killed in friday’s crash.

Authorities also confirming that someone from the car did make a 9-1-1 call asking for assistance because apparantly the accelerator had malfunctioned and was stuck.

SANTEE - Four people died Friday night in a mysterious crash where a speeding car hurtled off a freeway and sparked a brush fire in Santee.

 

Initial reports from California Highway Patrol officers indicate a caller dialed 911 to report that they were inside a car with a stuck accelerator and bad brakes on the 125 freeway north of La Mesa. The San DiegoUnion-Tribune reports the caller said their vehicle was travelling 120 miles per hour.

 

A nearly-simultaneous report came in at 6:37 p.m. Friday of a vehicle on fire and two people trapped inside on the northbound state Route 125 off-ramp to Mission Gorge Road in Santee, said San Diego sheriff’s Lt. Julie Sutton.

 

Witnesses reported seeing a four-door Lexus plunge into the San Diego River’s bed and burst into flames after slamming into the back of an SUV at the end of the Route 125 offramp.

 

Patrol deputies and fire personnel found four people in the Lexus, who were declared dead at the scene. Sheriff’s deputies handled the crash, in their jurisdiction area on Mission Gorge Road.

 

A small brush fire broke out after the crash.

 

The names of the victims have not been released.

    It was reported in the San Diego Union Tribune today that the vehichle was a 2009 Lexus ES 350.

    You can be I’m never buying a Lexus. Let’s hope they have different engineers working on the Toyota brands.
